General

Threadkins is a platform that enables members to Buy & Sell between themselves  (think gumtree… but so much more stylish and more automated!).

Payments are made directly between members via PayPay or cash for local pickups (more on payments  in other FAQ’s).

There are no listing or extra checkout fees charged by Threadkins.

Yep. Threadkins is 100% free to use. No buyer, seller or checkout fees.

Payments are made directly between members via PayPal. Each listing has the seller’s PayPal address attached to it, so payments go directly to the seller’s PayPal account and this email address will appear on buyers’ invoices.

Threadkins has no control over this payment as it is completed on the PayPal system.

PayPal protects both buyer and seller for online purchases and delivery. But sellers must send Parcel Post Parcels over the counter at their local post office to get that all important receipt and tracking details.

Also, PayPal protection does not extend to local pickup purchase so buyers beware.

Unfortunately PayPal does not offer any buyer or seller protection for local pickup payments. So cash payments are the only safe option (this applies to all sites not just Threadkins). Which is why some sellers only offer postage options and some buyers only want to use PayPal. We are looking into how to make online payments safe for both buyer and seller for local pickups and will update the site accordingly.

To make sure you get the items you want and to be protected by PayPal’s protection, select the combined postage option. Then contact the seller (message them from ‘My account’) to arrange combined postage. The seller will then send you a PayPal money request for the total cost to the email address you specify (note: parcels that contain items from multiple PayPal transactions, voids PayPal protection. A single money request covers all items). We are working on a solution to automate this without interfering with members who only want to buy single items. This is coming soon.

We LOVE feedback. WE are literally being paid to maintain the platform for Threadkins members so tell us what you think, how we can improve and what you love too.

Despite what social media will have us believe, nearly everyone is trustworthy and wants the best for themselves AND others.  But we kind of have to say the following anyway;

Sellers

  • Please describe your items honestly – we’ll be implementing a members feedback feature to highlight trusted members in the future
  • Include pictures of labels in your listings so people can judge authenticity for themselves
  • Send out parcels within 48hrs of receipt of payment
  • Local pickup – assume the item has sold and don’t sell elsewhere for a quicker sale.

Buyers

  • If you combine postage you’ve committed to buy the items. Don’t cancel (you wouldn’t like it) or you may have your membership revoked.
  • Marketplaces are always ‘buyer beware’ environments, so ask sellers questions if you are unsure
  • Local pickup – don’t be a no-show (nobody likes it), don’t try and renegotiate prices on the doorstep and try and turn up with the right change. And if life happens contact the seller to explain.
Of course the normal terms & conditions also apply.
Happy buying & selling!

Buyer

To make sure you get the items you want and to be protected by PayPal’s protection, select the combined postage option. The items will be marked as ‘Sold’ and you have effectively committed to buy the items.

Then contact the seller (message them from ‘My account’) to arrange combined postage. The seller will then send you a PayPal money request for the total cost to the email address you specify (note: parcels that contain items from multiple PayPal transactions, voids PayPal protection. This is where your PayPal buyer protection kicks in and you can get help reaching a resolution.

However, we would suggest contacting the seller first to express your disappointment and give them the chance to resolve before involving PayPal. It is likely to be a genuine oversight on the buyer’s behalf.

Please also let us know so we can track issues and remove repeat ‘offenders’ if necessary.  We will also be implementing a members feedback system (compliments) in the near future which will help discourage these incidences.

It sure is. Pre-loved is sold As-Is so it’s buyer beware. So we encourage being aware, so ask away.

Seller

Keep Threadkins nice and nichey and stick to Designer, Handmade, Top High-Street brands and hard to get international brands

*Designer, think Fashion Week catwalks
*Top high-street brands, think Seed & Country Road and brands held by Myer and David Jones
* Handmade items of a high standard (sure granny can knit a cosy sweater, but those dropped stitches are hard to overlook when preloved) and short-run handmade labels
*Boutique, think independently run kids boutiques or high quality online clothing ranges
*High-street international brands, those sought after brands that are a little harder or take longer to get over here.

Sure many of us like the odd Kmart, Target or Big W item, but not on Threadkins.

Ps. Let us know if you don’t think a brand or label belongs on Threadkins. We want to make sure members see items of interest.

Sure. We have a few.

  • Try and take photos in natural night against a neutral background (white is best in most cases)
  • Include photos of different views of the item (e.g. front & back and closeups of any stand-out features)
  • Include candid photos of your kids wearing the item if you can. It not only brings the item to life, but we may choose that photo for an Instagram post with a shoppable link back to your item
  • Include a photo of any Designer labels or top High-Street brands
  • Please don’t be offended if a fellow member asks more questions about an items authenticity (designer fakes are hard to spot sometimes)
  • Include photos of any significant stains/blemishes or damage
  • Detail any stains, blemishes or damage in the description.
  • We’ve simplified things by listing only the most standard sizing. So be sure to select all sizes that apply (to ensure you get the most interest in your listing) and detail the specific label/brand size in the listing (e.g label says 2-3yrs, select Size 2 and Size 3 for your listing and specify that the item is “size 2-3yrs” in your listing)
  • Choose the season(s) that is most suitable for your item. Helps people find out-of-season items.

We recommend selling with PayPal. Any money from items you sell will be paid directly to your PayPal account – at checkout the buyer will be redirected to a PayPal window with your PayPal email already attached. This email address will also appear on the buyer’s invoice.

Threadkins has no control over the PayPal transaction so be sure to specify the correct PayPal email address in your listing.

You can also accept cash payments for local pickup.

Buyer’s may also request combined postage for multiple items. Once you’ve agreed on a total amount for the multiple items and postage, simply send a PayPal money request for the total amount to the PayPal email address the buyer specifies.

If the buyer has paid by PayPal send the item by Parcel Post prepaid satchel ensuring you hand the parcel over the counter at your local Post Office to get that all important tracking receipt (you need this for PayPal seller protection).

If the buyer has opted for combined postage for multiple items, simply  agree on a total amount for the multiple items and postage, and send a PayPal money request for the total amount to the PayPal email address the buyer specifies.  Continue as above…

Edit the item via ‘My Marketplace Items’ and on update the item will be available to purchase again.
